Communique of A Five-week Town Hall meeting of Awgu North Constituency

 


COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A FIVE-WEEK MINI TOWN HALL MEETING BETWEEN THE CHIEF WHIP ENHA, HON. MRS JANE ENEH (AGUDO NWANYI) AND HER CONSTITUENTS

                                                            ORGANISED BY;

                                                 JANE CARES SUPPORT TEAM

                                                                    FROM;

                                 MON, 3RD AUGUST – WED 2ND SEPTEMBER, 2020

 

PREAMBLE:

A five-week Mini Town Hall Meeting was organized by Jane Cares Support Team with a theme on development feedback and community needs assessments. Participants were drawn from the ten towns that make up Awgu North Constituency, with some stakeholders from Awgu North Constituency as observers. The participants from Awgu North Constituency engaged the Chief Whip on the interactive sessions based on the time table outlined according to their wards engagement dates. The program was a success, as the aim of the meeting, which was to receive feedback from the communities and also know the possible areas they may need the help of the Chief Whip on intervention, was achieved.


CONCERN

The participants during their days of engagements thanked the Chief Whip on the following areas of concern based on testimonies;

  1. For giving 53 appointments to her constituents where every town in the constituency was captured in the job slot.
  2. For empowering some indigenes of the constituency with a brand new motorcycle, a wheel chair and a sewing machine.
  3. For renovating and also attracting brand new classroom blocks through (ENSUBEB) to some communities in the constituency.
  4. For the payment of tuition fees of 106 indigents student from JSS1-3 in the community secondary schools across the constituency.
  5. For distributing free learning aides to all the community primary schools in the constituency.
  6. For sharing of palliatives across all the communities in the constituency at the peak of COVID-19 virus pandemic lockdown.
  7. For her numerous financial supports and empowerment to indigenes of various communities in the constituency.
  8. For offsetting of the EEDC electricity bill arrears of Agbudu community at the tune of #1.5M on assumption into office.
  9. For re-reconstruction of the building of the oldest man in IHE, and also defrayed the hospital bill of a stranded patient (from IHE) @UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla at the tune of #300,000 during one of her constituency tour.
  10. For the empowerment and beautification of widows in the various communities that make up the constituency.
  11. For distribution of goodies to Party Executives in the constituency during the Xmas yuletide celebration.
  12. For overhauling and rebranding of the security architecture across the communities in the constituency.
  13. For local Govt and State Govt job employment slots given to some indigenes of the constituency…courtesy of her recommendations.
  14. For erecting of giant grotto of the status of our Blessed Virgin Mary  freely donated to all the Catholic parishes in the constituency.
  15. For sponsoring of some constituents for all expenses paid trip to Israel for pilgrimage.
  16. For sponsoring of one Ugochukwu Okonkwo from Amoli to Dubai for greener pasture.
  17. For fixing all the chairs and desks at Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogugu during one of her constituency tour.
  18. For cash support of #50,000 each to all the eleven councilors in Awgu Local Government, running to the tune of #550,000 (in Jan 2020 during their nomination form purchase).
  19.  For operating and running a functional constituency office located at Umuonwo, opposite police post IHE, which is always opened from Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm with two desk officers to attend to constituents.
  20. For her active participation in her official representative duty on sponsoring of Bills & Motions.
  21.  Plus a host of her numerous too much to be counted acts of charity & philanthropies.

 

OBSERVATIONS/REQUEST FOR INTERVENTION

Like Oliver Twist, the participants asked for more from their representative by requesting for her intervention on the following areas;

1.      Request to establish ICT centers to aid E-learning, research works and scholarships to the teeming youths of the constituency.

2.      A request to establish skill acquisition centers to aide empowerment of youths in the constituency.

3.      A request to establish SME centers to aide loan and grant facilities, for agro-allied entrepreneurs to leverage on.

4.      A request to equip the communities’ health centres for proper medic care to the indigenes of various communities.

5.      A request for drilling of borehole water projects to communities facing difficulties accessing clean water around them.

6.      A request to attract from the State Gov a road construction project to the various communities in the constituency, as 99.9% of the participants lamented over deteriorated road network within their villages.

7.      A request by IHE community on the need for the State Govt, on a matter of necessity honour their clarion call to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with them on compensation for the land acquisition from the host community for the building of the University of Education in their town.

8.      A request from the State Govt for a take-off on the academic activities of the University on the already existing structures in the town (Science School IHE), other than waiting for the permanent site building to be fully completed and commissioned before the take-off of the academic activities of the institution.

9.      A request for the speedy passage of the backing bill for an act to establish the University of Education in IHE, in the Enugu State House of Assembly.

10.  A request for attention to be given to some Secondary School structures in terms of renovating its dilapidated state; Community Secondary School, Amabor-Owelli, a case study to the aforementioned.

11.  A request to look into the activities of EEDC on high billings in the rural areas, a challenge which has led to gross disconnection from the National grid in most communities.

12.  A request to look into the insecurity threat emanating from youths restiveness in most communities; A plead to include more youths as vigilante volunteers into Govt payroll so as to beef up security manpower across the various communities in the constituency.

13.  A request for more empowerment/scholarships/employments into Govt parastatal (Ministry and Boards). Teachers’ recruitment into our community secondary schools also important.

 

RESOLUTIONS

Following the giant political strides of the Chief Whip ENHA, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh (Agudo Nwanyi) which she was able to achieve within the short space of her one year in office, the participants insisted it was a first of its kind, hence, they resolved to pass the following resolutions/recommendations;

  1. That Chief Whip is a down to grassroot representative.
  2.  That Chief Whip deserved to be given all their unalloyed and unflinching supports.
  3. That Chief Whip is hereby been passed an explicit vote of confidence upon to soar higher in her political career come 2023.

 

COMMENDATIONS

Participants commended the Chief Whip for the opportunity accorded unto them for the One-on-One interactive session. Participants also commended Jane Cares Support Team over their good coordination of the meeting in the aspect of service delivery.
