MON, 3RD APRIL, 2021

PRESS RELEASE

International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, is usually a day set aside to celebrate labourers and other working class/work force that are been promoted by the International labour movement under the labour Act. Although this year's International Workers' Day event fell on a date and at a time like this when labour is facing enormous challenges emanating from the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, economic hardship and insecurity problems across the country, the degree of enthusiasm seen on the faces of the jubilant Enugu workers during their annual event celebration on Sat, May 1, 2021 at Michael Okpara Square, Independence layout, Enugu, with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in attendance as the Special guest of honour, alongside with some other stakeholders from the state shows that Enugu State is really blessed with the best capable hands in the areas of good governance.

In their May D celebration, jubilant workers under the aegis of organised labour aptly led by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Virginus Nwobodo and his Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Benneth Asogwa commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his administration's laudable projects and programmes aimed at improving their living standard and also that of the entire people of the state.

Chief Whip ENHA, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Member representing Awgu North constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly during an interactive session with the media team of JANE-CARESTV online news blog on Sun, May 2, appreciated the Union's unity in the state such that Ndi Enugu overtime have never for once witnessed any social media uproar publicizing about their leadership rift. While she commends their strong leadership bond and co-existence, she extols the efforts of the joint workers union bodies for their unrelenting positive impacts as the driving force of the state economy. Stressing further, Chief Whip lauds Gov. Ugwuanyi for his good governance policy that has created an enabling environment for the workers in the state to strive. She maintained that the welfare packages for the workers especially on the payment of 13-months salary, prompt payment of monthly salaries/arears, unequalled resilience in the approval and payment of the new #30,000 minimum wage as well as it's consequential adjustment to the state workers' payroll makes Gov. Ugwuanyi a distinguished noble leader.

It's pertinent for Enugu workers to also reciprocate the kind gestures of Gov. Ugwuanyi by putting the interest of the state first above self in the discharge of their duties, Chief Whip advises Enugu workers.

While you enjoy your public holiday today as announced by the FGN, lets not forget that taking our dear home state to that anticipated desired promised land is a collective effort that requires all hands to be on deck, Chief Whip enjoined workers.

Chief Whip wishes all the good people of Awgu North Constituency and the entire Enugu workers a happy International Workers' Day celebration.

Enugu State is in the hands of God.
