This year's theme which is centred on the need to create more awareness amongst the people regarding digital literacy, is also noted as a very key component project in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Chief Whip ENHA, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Member representing Awgu North Constituency at the Enugu State House of Assembly, in a media chat with the media team of JANE-CARESTV affirmed that her sponsored program tagged "JANE CARES ADULT LITERACY EDUCATION PROGRAM" for the constituents has for a period of good one year that the program kicked-off, impacted positively on the lives of the people in the constituency by improving the literacy quotients of some of the learners who participated in the just concluded 2020/2021 academic session.
Chief Whip who re-iterated her stand that she will continue to give-in her best efforts and commitments towards improving the welfare of her constituents also called on prospective candidates; Youths, Fathers and Mothers wishing to be part of the program for the 2021/2022 academic session to leverage on the free sponsorship of the program to improve on their literacy knowledge, for it said that one day of literacy is far more better than one hundred years of illiteracy, thus, we should know that no knowledge is a waste, most especially now that we are in the information (Computer) Age.
Chief Whip who recognises the fact that COVID-19 pandemic to a large extent has adversely hampered learnings by children, young people and adults globally via social distancing and lock down policies put in place by the World Health Organisations (W.H.O) and the Federal Ministry of Education as part of the preventive measures to cushion the effect of the virus, therefore called on NGOs, Organizations, well spirited individuals to be key partners in supporting and sponsoring literacy Education programs for their people as part of their own contributions towards advancing human capital developments and capacity building for the masses.
Stressing further, Chief Whip also opines that for the society to curb the literacy divide which is the foundation for the United Nations' focus on human-centred recovery to bridge the gap of illiteracy amongst the children, youths and adults, we must explore technologically-based initiatives such as E-learning webinars and other app innovations that will be accessible to all learners both in the urban and the rural areas. According to her, these innovations will help immensely in closing the gap on illiteracy and also help in the long run to re-shape future literacy teachings and learnings, within and beyond the context of the pandemic.
