PRESS RELEASE
"On this important day, let's join hands across generations to break down barriers, and work as one to achieve a more equitable, just and inclusive world for all people --- António Guterres, UN Secretary-General".
As United Nations celebrate the "2022 International Youth Day" across the globe today Friday, August 12, with a theme - "Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for all Ages", Chief Whip ENHA, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Member representing Awgu North Constituency, has called on the youths to be more objective in amplifying the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve our societal "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", where no one will be left behind.
In raising awareness on certain barriers to intergenerational solidarity with a view to striking a balance in age-related barriers on political participations, it is very important for the young people to note that respect must be duly given to the elderly ones while politicking. While this will go a long way in complimenting our igbo culture that sues for respect for our elderly ones, it will also help play a very significant role in strengthening the bond of intergenerational solidarity which UN advocates for, Chief Whip stated.
Chief Whip therefore, calls on the youths to carve out a niche for themselves by always putting up their best characters anywhere they find themselves, for that's the only way to distinguish themselves in the society and also ignite the spirit of intergenerational solidarity amongst the young and the old in the game of politics.
Chief Whip stated all these, during a media chat with the media team of JANE-CARESTV in her office at the State House of Assembly complex, Independence layout, Enugu on Thursday, August 11.
While wishing the youths of her Constituency and the entire Enugu youths a happy celebration devoid of violence and rancor, Chief Whip also enjoined the youths to always keep at all times the political terrain very peaceful, as they go about politicking for their preferred choice of candidate in 2023 election.
Elections will come and go, but we as a people will continue to remain as one irrespective of our religious divides, political party affiliations or socio-cultural inclinations. So, let's support, preach and embrace peace in all we do at all times, Chief Whip advised.
