Enugu State Governor-Elect, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Deputy Governor-Elect, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Chief Whip ENHA/Reelected Member for Awgu North Constituency, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, among others, today Thursday, March 30, received their Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The issuance of the certificates of return to the Enugu State Governor-Elect, Deputy Governor-elect and Twenty-three (23) out of the Twenty-four (24) House of Assembly Members-Elect was performed by the INEC National Commissioner in-charge of Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, Chief Ken Ukeagu.
The remaining one out of the 24 House of Assembly seats, Oji-River State Constituency which was declared inconclusive has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 15.
Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, in his welcome address, said the issuance of the certificates of return was in line with the electoral process spelt out by the law.
"Issuance of certificate of return is an aspect of the electoral process guaranteed by the law which must be done within 14days of the conclusion of an election. INEC Certificate of Return issued is an evidence and authority showing that one has been duly elected in the election conducted by the commission", Dr. Chukwu explained.
According to him, the Enugu State House of Assembly seats comprises of 24 state constituencies but 23 Members-Elect would be issued with their certificates of return today except that of Oji-River state constituency which was earlier declared inconclusive.
The REC urged the winners to be magnanimous in victory and also carry all along by providing them with good dividends of democracy and good governance as promised in their electioneering period.
"INEC is most grateful to the good people of Enugu State for their peaceful participation and conduct during and after the election, even in the face of a challenging situation encountered during the collation and resolving of Nsukka and Enugu East local government votes".
"I want to thank most graciously, INEC Headquarters and security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security for their efforts in the peaceful conduct of elections in the state", Dr. Chukwu added.
In his remarks, Dr. Peter Mbah assured Ndi Enugu that he will run an all-inclusive governance and open door policy in his administration, stating that "election is over, now is the time to come together to build a prosperous Enugu State".
"I am appealing to all involved in the election to join hands with me in building together that Enugu State of our desired dream". History will not be kind to us, if at a time like this when everyone should be pursuing one cause; which is the development of our dear home state, some are still bent in the pursuit of personal interest.
"This is why I am extending hands of friendship to all who contested with me during the election. Of a truth, I ran the race for the hearts of Enugu electorates. So, let's be united in passion for the growth of our state", Dr. Mbah said.
Congratulating the duo of Dr. Peter Mbah and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Chief Whip lauded the Governor of the state, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, People's Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in the state and Ndi Enugu in general for their doggedness, overwhelming support and solidarity that birthed the success of this "Tomorrow is Here" Project.
Truly, Ndi Enugu made a better choice through the ballot. Our Mandate for a better tomorrow is in better hands. With the duo of Dr. Peter Mbah and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, whose proven capacity and competence are not in doubt, the vision for a New Enugu State is possible.
Dedicating her certificate of return to God at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in Blessed Sacrament Parish, Independence layout Enugu, Chief Whip prays for God's direction, wisdom and grace upon her and Dr. Peter Mbah's administration.
