INT'L WOMEN'S DAY 2023: CHIEF WHIP ENHA, ENEH CALL ON ALL TO EMBRACE EQUITY

PRESS RELEASE

Published by JANE-CARESTV, Wednesday March 8, 2023.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

This year's International women's day campaign is centred on a theme: #EmbraceEquity.

In a statement made available to JANECARESTV by the Chief Whip ENHA, Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Member representing Awgu North Constituency, in commemoration of the 2023 International women's day, called on all and sundry to fully #EmbraceEquity. Equity according to the United Nations isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have. Thus, a focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA.

Explaining further, it's critical to understand the difference between equity and equality. The aim of this year's IWD #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about _"Why equal opportunities aren't enough to accommodate the women"_.

Chief Whip stated that we all can truly embrace equity, not just by mere talking or writing about it, but by valuing, embracing and walking the talk. Equity means creating an inclusive world. We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion. Being included, having a feeling of sense of belonging and embracing diversity do not only foster harmony and unity but also drive success for all, Chief Whip added.

Don't just say it, Think it, Be it, Do it, Value it, Truly embrace it in all its forms. Let's be partners in progress by valuing and supporting our differences, reflecting on how we can collectively be part of our constituency's solution and not the problem. Let's encourage each other and also work as a team to impact positive change on the lives and well-being of those around us, Chief Whip enjoin constituents.

Let us all embrace equity today and always. Let us all step forward and commit to #EmbraceEquity. Be part of it in both mindset and actions, Chief Whip urges.
