8TH ASSEMBLY: AWGU NORTH MEMBER-ELECT, ENEH JOINS COLLEAGUES FOR INAUGURATION, CONGRATULATE SPEAKER, DEPUTY SPEAKER

Immediate past Chief Whip ENHA and Member-Elect for Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Chinwe Eneh, today Tuesday, June 13, joined her fellow Members-Elect for inauguration of the 8th Assembly at the lower chamber of the State House of Assembly Complex, Independence layout, Enugu.

Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu from Udi North Constituency, the immediate past deputy speaker of the House was elected the speaker of the 8th Assembly unopposed shortly after the motion for the business of the day was kicked-off by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emma Udaya.

Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) emerged winner after he was nominated by Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu of Nkanu West Constituency and seconded by Hon. Tony Chukwudi Nwankwo of Awgu South Constituency.

Following his nomination and subsequent acceptance of the nomination of Uche Ugwu and in the absence of any other nomination, the Clerk of the House declared him speaker of the House. 

In his words, "I hereby declare Rt. Hon. Uche Calistus Ugwu as the Speaker of the House", Clerk of the House/Head of Legislative Service, Dr. Emma Udaya said. 

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu was sworn-in by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Dr. Emmanuel Okey Udaya, after taking the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office. 

Another Member-Elect from Igboetiti East Constituency, Prince Ezenta Ezeani also emerged the Deputy Speaker of the House after his nomination was made by Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh from Awgu North Constituency and seconded by Hon. Okey Mbah of Nkanu East constituency. In the absence of further nomination, Ezenta Ezeani was declared the Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly by the Clerk of the House.  

The Speaker and Deputy Speaker are from People's Democratic Party (PDP). 

In an interview granted by JANE-CARESTV shortly after the inauguration, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh congratulated the speaker and his deputy for their successful emergence as the principal officers of the House. She commended Gov. Mbah for his big dreams for the state and called on her colleagues to join hands with the speaker to run a true and democratic assembly. She said the 8th Assembly will focus on legislatures that are people-oriented especially policies that will improve workers' welfare, accelerate  infrastructural developments, among others. "We shall also work in synergy with the executive governor of the state, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to achieve his seven-point agenda on integrated sector-based productivity growth, referred to as TRACCIE, which is an acronym for; Tourism Development; Rural and Urban Infrastructure; Agriculture; Commerce and Industries; Creative Industries; ICT; Energy and Mineral resources," She added. 

Earlier within the week, declaring open the pre-inauguration workshop for the Members-Elect of the 8th Assembly at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mbah, aptly represented by his deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai sought for the support and constructive partnership of the 8th Assembly Members in achieving effective governance and accelerated development in the state. 

Gov. Mbah stated that his administration is determined to provide to the people of the state disruptive innovation and other dividends of democracy as captured in his manifesto. While assuring you of my commitment to effective and efficient service delivery, your support and partnership are needed to enhance the achievement of this goal, Gov. Mbah added.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent personalities in the state, as well as supporters and constituents who came to show solidarity to their Members-Elect. 

Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu took over from Rt. Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi, a people's democratic party (PDP) lawmaker from Isi-Uzo state constituency, who piloted the affairs of the 7th Assembly.
