INT'L DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD: AWGU NORTH REP, ENEH REITERATES COMMITMENT TO MORE EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT FOR CONSTITUENTS

The International Day of the African Child is an annual event commemorated every June 16. The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) initiated the first International Day of the African Child in 1991, when it honoured those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976. 

International Day of the African Child encourages governments through the continent to provide quality education for children. The day focuses attention on the barriers African Children face in order to receive quality education. 

In this year's celebration of the International Day of the African Child with the theme - "Education for Empowerment: Unlocking the Future", Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Immediate past Chief Whip ENHA and Member representing Awgu North Constituency has reiterated commitment in advancing more educational empowerment programs for indigent students in her constituency.

It is on record that in 2019 when she assumed office as member representing Awgu North state constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh initiated JANE CARES SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME for her constituents through her foundation that focuses on: Payment of tuition fees for over 100 indigent students every term, Payment of Junior Secondary school WAEC fees (Basic Education Certificate Examination), Sponsorship of Adult literacy education program, Bursary for indigent students of tertiary institution, Sponsorship of persons/group of persons for skill acquisition training, among others.

Since 2019 till date, her foundation has recorded huge success with the number of beneficiaries springing up progressively. The beneficiaries are equally thankful to her over her heart of gold and benevolence to the people she represents. 

"Every child deserves good education. Education is the key for children to grow up and be successful. I am committed to giving my best in seeing that our children in the constituency, especially the indigent ones who do not have any help, gets the value for education, among others". 

This hint was obtained by JANE-CARESTV from Mrs Franca Eze, Secretary to Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, after their "2023 Project plan and Evaluation" meeting held on thursday, June 14, in her office (Mrs Eneh) at the Enugu State House of Assembly complex, Independence layout, Enugu.

As the 2023 theme for the commemoration of the International Day of the African Child emphasizes the transformative power of education in shaping the lives of African children, well-spirited individuals, corporate bodies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are also encouraged to be partners in achieving this progress, by helping with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills programs and donation of set of computers to pupils for online learnings. Donation of textbooks and other learning aids, sponsorship of scholarship programs, extra moral classes, among others, are all very essential in helping to shape the lives of our children positively, Mrs Eneh suggests.

While government will continue to do its bit, individuals and companies should also extend hands of generosity and corporate social responsibility to communities for advanced development in our society, Mrs Eneh added.
