International Youth Day is an annual event celebrated every August 12. The commemoration focuses on the difficulties that many young people around the world are experiencing, ranging from lack of basic education, skill acquisition, to childhood poverty.

International Youth Day was created by the United Nations (UN) to help draw awareness to these issues as a way of finding solutions. To support the elimination of these issues, it is important that youth get the right resources in education, well-being, medical attention, and childhood poverty.

The clarion call for a brighter future for the teeming population of youths gave rise to this year's choice of theme, "Green Skills for Youth: Towards a sustainable world."

Speaking with JANE-CARESTV, Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Chinwe Eneh expresses concern at the rate of difficulties and limited access to essential resources many youngsters face in our society today.

"To pave way for a better future, we must take action and get involved. "Youths have to be introduced to green skills, and it must be intentional. "Green skills such as technical knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes are needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society," Mrs Eneh stated.

"Youths need 'skills for the future' and 'skills for green jobs'. "In my commitment to cause of youth advancement, Jane Cares foundation places priority on scholarship scheme, adult literacy education program, bursary, empowerment, skill acquisition training, among others. "In advancing this cause, we are also making concerted effort at expanding the scope of our services and reach too, to our teeming youth constituency," Mrs Eneh explains.

Deputy Minority leader, therefore, call on the youths to carve out niche for themselves by taking up the challenge of learning a skill today.
