AWGU/ANINRI/OJI-RIVER FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: ENUGU DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER, ENEH CONGRATULATES ONWUEGBU ON HIS VICTORY AT THE TRIBUNAL

The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Chinwe Eneh has felicitated with Chief (Engr.) Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu) on his victory at the tribunal.

After weeks of legal battle at the Enugu State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, the three man panel led by Justice Nusirat I. Umar in its judgment on Friday, September 8, declared Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu), the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), as the duly elected candidate and winner of the Feb. 25th 2023 poll for Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency position.

Recall that Engr. Onwuegbu had approached the tribunal after the poll, challenging the declaration of Barr. Chijioke Okereke of the Labour Party as winner, on the grounds that he (Okereke) was a stranger to the election and his name wasn't even on the result sheet as the labour party candidate.

The panel agreed that Barr. Okereke wasn't a candidate for the election and accordingly, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall also that prior to the election, the name that appeared on the list published by INEC for the election was Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, the former minority leader of the House of Representatives. This was also the name that appeared on the result sheet too and not that of Barr. Chijioke Okereke.

Recalling also, Barr. Chijioke Okereke had earlier approached a High Court sitting in Enugu to claim the ticket of the Labour Party where a judgement was given in his favour after Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu distanced himself from being a member of the Labour Party nor its candidate in the 2023 general election.

It is therefore a thing of note that Barr. Chijioke Okereke has become the second member of the National Assembly from Labour Party to be sacked by the tribunal. Earlier, tribunal sacked Prof. Sunday Nnamchi representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency and replaced him with Hon. Prince Cornelius Nnaji, the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This was in a judgement delivered by a three-man panel led by Justice A. M. Abubakar.

Reacting to the news on the internet, Enugu Deputy Minority Leader congratulated Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu) on his victory at the tribunal.  In her words "Congratulations on your victory at the tribunal. It is indeed a victory well-deserved. Your victory is a victory to all of us in Awgu/Aninri/Oji-River Federal Constituency, our great party PDP, our democracy and Enugu state in general."

Stating further, Mrs Eneh prays for God's grace and wisdom upon Engr. Onwuegbu, in the national assignment ahead of him.

Our Tomorrow is indeed finally here.
