The National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Enugu has dismissed and struck out the petition filed by the Awgu North Constituency House of Assembly candidate of the Labour Party, Miracle Chukwunonso Ochi, against the election of Jane Chinwe Eneh of the People's Democratic Party, PDP.

The Tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the Labour Party candidate, Miracle Nonso Ochi, challenging the electoral victory of Jane Eneh, for lack of merit.

The Court bemoaned the petitioners' failure to substantiate their claim of irregularities and non-compliance with the electoral act during the conduct of the march 18th poll.

Earlier, when the matter was called up and appearances announced for the petition brought before it by Chukwunonso Ochi and Labour Party (Petitioners) against Jane Eneh, People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) - respondents, the petitioners challenged the victory of Jane Eneh of the PDP, on the grounds that there were irregularities and non-compliance with the electoral act during the poll.

After arguments and counterarguments, the court delivered its judgment on Friday, September 29.

Delivering judgement after weeks of legal battle, the three man panel led by Justice A. M. Abubakar, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the petition as grossly lacking in merit and affirmed the victory of Jane Eneh in the election of 18th March, 2023.

The court ruled that the petitioner filed his petition but could not produce proof of evidence.

Speaking with JANE-CARESTV, The Deputy Minority leader, who reacted to the news of her tribunal victory, hailed the ruling of the court and dedicated the victory to God and also to the good people of her constituency.

Responding also, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh described the court ruling as upright and victory for Awgu North Constituency and our democracy in the state.

Mrs Eneh, who spoke through one of her aides, Chris Enebe, said ”we didn’t expect anything less from the tribunal because Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Chinwe Eneh won the March 18th election, fair and square”.

He commended the judiciary for remaining the last hope of the common man.

Adding further, Mrs Jane Eneh urged her opponents to consider the elections over and support her in her bid to give the people of Awgu North Constituency quality representation.

”After the election, i extended hands of friendship to all my opponents and encouraged them to join hands with me so that together we can win big for our people. This time again, i am reiterating the same commitment to the cause of peace and unity in our constituency, Mrs Eneh added."

"Truly, One with God is Majority, Mrs Jane Eneh stated in her final message."
