The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) on Saturday, October 14, honoured the Deputy Minority Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Chinwe Eneh, with "Ambassador of Nigerian Women Award" during their Enugu 2023 Convention/Election.

The National Council for Women Societies is the umbrella organisation for all women associations in Nigeria. It is a non-political, non-ethnic, not for profit making and non-governmental organisation.

The event, which was held at the Universal Hotel, Independence layout Enugu, had the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah who graced the event, including several women from all works of life and top government functionaries in attendance. The event kicked off with an opening prayer led by the council president of Awgu local government chapter, Mrs Janet Nwogbo JP.

Presenting the award after their election, the National President of NCWS, Hajia Lami Adamu Lau, in the presence of the first lady of the state, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah; Mrs Chichi Ogbu, the President of the Enugu state branch of NCWS; Hon. Mrs Ngozi Valentina Enih, Commissioner for children, gender affairs and social development; and other organisers of the event described the deputy minority leader as a woman of golden heart who has touched many lives positively especially women and youths within and outside her constituency. Lauding her giant political feat and landmarks in the various communities across her constituency within this short period of her stay in office, they thumbed up to her effective and efficient representation, describing her as a shining light whose exceptional humane leadership have so much impacted positively on the widows and the downtrodden in the society.

The women who highlighted some of the numerous achievements of the deputy minority leader during her first tenure lauded her for truly showing to the world that women can deliver when given the opportunity to serve in government. They, therefore, said their clamour for gender equality and inclusive leadership for women is not a cause being championed in vain.

Responding, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh thanked God for the inspiring leadership, enabling environment and the opportune moment given to her to serve by the past administration, through which she was able to achieve all that she recorded on ground for the good people of Awgu North Constituency, during her first tenure in office.

Speaking further, the deputy minority leader said she was impressed with the way Enugu women have galvanised and coordinated themselves all these years, uniting and supporting themselves, their communities, and the government of the day in the state. She urged them not to relent in their efforts.

Congratulating one of her constituents, Lolo Ugoeze Nkiru Gloria Onuorah, who emerged the General Secretary of the Enugu State chapter in the just concluded election, the deputy minority leader expressed confidence that lolo Nkiru Onuorah will make the constituency and Enugu State proud in the discharge of her duties, judging from her track record on competence and leadership qualities.

Finally, the deputy minority leader thanked the women for the Ambassador Award bestowed on her and promised never to relent in her political ideology of impacting positively on the lives and well-being of the people she serve.

She congratulated the newly elected excos of the Enugu State chapter and wished them God's grace and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the council in the state effectively.
