The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh (JP) has condemned the violent abuse of an Awgu daughter and a child live-in maid by her guardian at Government Residential Area (GRA) Onitsha in Anambra State, Nigeria.

                 Mrs Adachukwu and her kids

Reacting to a viral video of a girl between the ages of nine to ten years, Happiness Nwafor, whose mother is from Umuanugwo village in Enugu-owelli, Awgu local government area of Enugu State, who appeared with gory iron-stamp burns all over her body, allegedly inflicted on her by her guardian, Mrs Adachukwu Chukelu Okafor, the deputy minority leader described the guardian's act as cruel, barbaric, and inhuman.

In a passionate appeal to ensure that justice is served, Mrs Eneh calls on the wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, to do everything within her power to see that the girl's guardian is apprehended and brought to book, to face the wrath of the law.

                    Mrs Adachukwu Okafor

The alleged culprit, now at large, is said to be living with the maid at her Akpaka, 33 G.R.A, Onitsha residence, and got infuriated when the maid, who was bathing her boy child allegedly touched the child's pen*s.

"It was then that Mrs Okafor, said to be a legal practitioner and a pastor in a local church, used everything within her reach, including a charged laundry iron, knife and a pistol to feast on the maid," sources said.

"After maltreating the maid, the guardian sent the girl back to one Mrs Ifeoma Muoghalu, a resident of Nkpor, who is said to be her relative and the middle person that made the arrangement for the girl to be given to her guardian as maid," sources narrated.

Speaking with JANE-CARESTV in her office at the Enugu State House of Assembly complex, Independence layout Enugu, the deputy minority leader lauds the wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo for her swift intervention in directing the state's commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo to take custody of the girl and begin immediate treatment on her wounds, and also conduct tests to ascertain if she sustained internal injuries during the incidence.

Expressing sadness over the degree of injuries sustained by the girl, as seen in the video making rounds on social media, the deputy minority join voices with that of the Anambra State governor's wife in appealing with the general public for anyone with any useful information on how to get hold of the fleeing guardian, to contact the relevant authority in the state. Mrs Eneh urges the general public with any information to open up as a matter of conscience and right reasons.

Reiterating the stance of the government in leaving no stone unturned in dealing decisively with anyone who has no respect for human dignity, the deputy minority leader warns those still indulging in the acts of child abuse, human trafficking, molestation, violence against women and children, among others to desist from it, as the full arm of the law has zero tolerance for such barbaric acts and will not be lenient with anybody found wanting, in the society.

Re-echoeing the appeal for parents to take serious considerations of their child's age and human temperaments before giving out their child or children to guardians, Mrs Eneh advice parents to form the habit of reaching some terms and conditions of agreement with their child's prospective guardians before leaving them in their custodies.

Empathizing with the family of Nwafor's and the good people of Enugu-Owelli over the unfortunate incidence, Mrs Eneh enjoined everyone affected by the incidence to remain calm and be optimistic that Happiness will get justice in due time.

"Do not be violent or take laws into your hands as a way of registering your grievances over the incidence. Allow the relevant authority to do their job. Since the Anambra State Government is already in the know of the happenings, let us give them all the necessary support needed in the discharge of their duties," Mrs Eneh urges.
