The Deputy Minority leader/member representing Awgu North Constituency, Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has commended the wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo and the Anambra State commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, for their efforts and commitments towards ensuring that justice is served.
Adachukwu Cukelu-Okafor was on wednesday, February 21, arraigned before Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, on a-two-count charge bordering on willful infliction of physical injuries on the body of one Happiness Nwafor, an offence punishable under section 4(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition and Protection), Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 2017.
She had earlier on Tuesday appeared before the Anambra State Commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo claiming that her live-in maid, Happiness Nwafor injured herself while trying to run away from being flogged.
From the child abuse video that went viral on social media over, Adachukwu allegedly assaulted her 11-year-old maid with a hot-iron and knife.
Mrs Okafor had initially gone on the run after reports of the incident surfaced online until she was declared wanted by the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, with a bounty of two million naira on her head before she later turned herself in to the police.
Mrs Okafor, who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against her, was refused to be granted bail by the court, following the bail application moved by her lawyer, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo.
The matter was, therefore, subsequently adjourned to Wednesday, February 28, 2024, for ruling.
Pleading with the wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, and the Anambra State commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, to do everything within their power in ensuring that justice is served, the deputy minority assure them of her prayers and support always.
