Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane EnehThe Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has assured the people of Owelli-court, in Awgu LGA, Enugu State, of more dividends of democracy coming their way.
The deputy minority leader stated this when she visited the town on wednesday, February 21, on invitation by the community women.
The people of Owelli-court congratulated the deputy minority leader once again for her victory during the March 18th poll and assured her of their prayers and unalloyed support to her and other elected leaders under the umbrella of people's democratic party (PDP) in the state.
Welcoming the deputy minority leader to their community, the president/founder of the women group under the aegis of Owelli Progressive Women Group, Lolo Nnenna Basil Okolie (JP) commended the deputy minority leader for honouring their invitation.
Counting their democratic dividends in owelli town since Mrs Eneh assumed office as lawmaker representing the constituency, the women group president thanked the lawmaker for remembering Owelli-court in a special way during her first tenure, through appointment of Owelli sons and daughters as aides, annual beautification and empowerment welfare programs to owelli widows and representatives of Catholic Women Organization (CWO), organising of adult literacy education program centre in owelli, reconstruction of Universal Primary Education (UPE) school in Amabor-Owelli-court, construction of new three room classroom block at Owelli Girls Secondary school, recommendation and facilitating of some owelli sons and daughters into state jobs, among others.
"According to her, no past representative in Awgu North constituency had remembered Owelli-court as Mrs Eneh's administration had done," Lolo Basil Okolie stated.
Speaking further, the women group president who doubles as legislative assistant to Sen. Osita Ngwu commended the lawmaker for appointing a member of the Owelli Progressive Women Group recently, including other owellians among her aides. Lolo Nnenna Basil Okolie, who recalled that she had earlier expressed other concerns of the town to the lawmaker, expressed optimism that those requests were receiving the deserved attention.
In her response, the deputy minority leader, represented by her Chief of Staff and Awgu local government PDP Secretary, Chief Okoye Cajethan (Onowu Enugu-oke Ihe) affirmed the one family structure of the ruling party in the state and thanked the people of Owelli-court for their efforts and believe in the party, through their votes during the 2023 general election.
Appreciating the women for their turnout in their colourful uniform, Chief Okoye said, "I am impressed by what I see here. It is encouraging, I commend owelli women for their unity and support to the present administration in the state. I urge you to continue to give maximum support to all the elected leaders under the umbrella of the ruling party in the state to enable them to achieve their mandates and visions to the people."
In the face of the present biting economic hardship in the country, the deputy minority leader urged the women to take seriously the clarion call for all and sundry to return back to agriculture, in order to enhance food sufficiency and economic growth in the state.
"Gov. Mbah's vision is to make Enugu State the food basket of the nation. He has demonstrated this through his polices on agricultural revamp projects and payment of counterpart funds for the donor agricultural-assisted projects, which includes; the payment of seven years arrears for Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program Phase-1, the initial payment for the new Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, three years payment for IFAD assisted Value Chain Development Programme, among others. We are all expected as constituents to key into this vision by going back to agriculture, in order to boost our local economy, and also showcase to the outside world our locally produced goods," Mrs Eneh added.
