The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has congratulated a constituent, Barr. Reuben Okoye and the other appointees in the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC).

The deputy minority leader congratulated the Commissioner appointee from her constituency, Barr. Reuben Okoye, an indegene of Ogbaku community, alongside with his fellow appointees when they paid her a familiarization visit in her office at the Enugu State House of Assembly complex, on wednesday, March 13, after successful screening and confirmation of their appointments by the 8th assembly.

The deputy minority leader urged the appointees "to bring to bear their wealth of experience and expertise in the power sector through joining of efforts with Gov. Mbah-led administration in actualizing its set down goals in the repositioning of the state's GDP through Disruptive Economic Growth."

"Gov. Mbah came prepared, and he is ready to work. His antecedents since after inauguration have shown that his pick of technocrats and experts as members of his cabinet is second to none. So, do not disappoint him in his administration's commitment towards delivering accelerated development to the people of the state," the deputy minority leader urged the appointees.

Recall that on Monday, March 11, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State forwarded the name of Mr Chijioke Okonkwo to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, alongside with the commissioner nominees in the persons of Chinedum Ukabiala, Chuka Akunne and Reuben Okoye.

The names were contained in a letter forwarded to the House, which was read by the Speaker, Chief Uche Ugwu, during the House emergency plenary on Monday.

At the plenary, the speaker then directed the nominees to submit 25 copies of their curriculum vitae to the clerk of the House and appear before the assembly on wednesday, March 13, 2024, for screening and confirmation.

The appointment of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer and Commissioners of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC) became necessary in setting the ground running since Gov. Mbah has already signed the Enugu State Electricity Bill into law since September 2023.

Gov. Mbah, during the signing of the Enugu State Electricity Bill into law, described the move as a major step towards economic growth in the state.

According to him, this will enable the state government to participate in the electricity industry value chain and make the state the top location for business, tourism, investment, and lifestyle.

"Without a sufficient and reliable power supply, our administration's goal of growing the economy of Enugu State from $4.4 billion to $30 billion would be a pipe dream. That's why we spared no time in making sure that we create our own electricity market, to enable us to play in the generation, transmission, and distribution segments of the electricity market. That is the crux of this law," Gov. Mbah stated during the signing of the Enugu State Electricity bill into law at the Government House in Enugu.

Our long-awaited tomorrow is indeed truly here!
