GOVERNANCE: ENUGU DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER, ENEH LAUDS GOV. MBAH ON TOWN HALL MEETING WITH ENUGU RESIDENTS, CITIZENS

The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has lauded the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for holding State of State consultations, gathering of feedback and addressing concerns of the residents and citizens of the state through a Town Hall Meeting.

The deputy minority leader made this commendation on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Old Government Lodge, Enugu, while speaking with JANE-CARESTV, shortly after the governor's Town Hall meeting with the people of the state.

The deputy minority leader stated that the town hall meeting on the theme, "Issues of Governance: The Journey So Far," has afforded the electorates and stakeholders in the state, a unique opportunity to discuss on matters pertaining to governance with the state governor, thereby making the governor to get first hand information about the people's needs and aspirations. It provided an avenue for the people of the state to voice out their opinions and also commend the governor for staying true to his campaign promises.

Highlight on some of the issues discussed were on infrastructure, youth empowerment, job creation, taxation, workers' minimum wage and welfare packages, reticulation of portable water across the rural areas, among others.

Responding, Gov. Mbah promised to invest in the development of roads, schools, and type 2 primary healthcare centres across the 260 wards which are going to be equipped with solar powered power supply and other modern equipment, to reduce infant and maternal mortality in the state. We shall continue payment of wage awards to our state workers until committee on new minimum wage concludes its work. The wage award of between N10,000 and N25,000 to state workers since December 2023 is to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal and also impact on the living conditions of our people in the state.

Adding further, "Gov. Mbah pledged to prioritize the development of vocational training centres and invest in entrepreneurship programs to provide employment opportunities for the teeming youths of the state. We will continue to prioritize workers' welfare by adding values that would help workers to thrive. Our administration inherited arrears of pension and gratuity of retired civil servants, which we did not waste time in clearing them. Today, we are working seriously to clear that of primary school teachers and local government workers," Gov. Mbah stated.

"Enugu by 2026 will be generating and distributing its own electricity. Our smart schools which are under construction in the 260 wards across the state will come alive in being fully operational by September 2025. On tax issue, we didn't increase tax rate, we only expanded our tax net with formidable commitment to enforcing the already existing tax laws in the state. Tanker drivers are sabotaging government's efforts on the water project but we are vowing that anyone caught shall be made to face the full wrath of the law," Gov. Mbah explained.

Reiterating his commitment to the overall development of the state, Gov. Mbah assured Ndi Enugu that his administration will promote transparency in governance and also eliminate corruption in government services.

Lauding the governor for the peaceful and interactive town hall program, and the accolades he received from the attendees on his remarkable achievements and dispositions, the deputy minority leader commended the people of the state for turning out enmasse for the town hall meeting, adding that it has demonstrated that the people of Enugu still believe in Gov. Mbah's exceptional leadership and his PDP-led administration as well.

The lawmaker assured the people of the state that Gov. Mbah, as a listening governor, will surely address all the issues of concern raised by them, with the ultimate aim of building back people's confidence in governance, for a better and prosperous Enugu State.

Pledging her support and those of her constituents to Gov. Mbah-led administration, the deputy minority leader implore all and sundry, across political party line and religious divides, to join hands with the governor in repositioning the state for disruptive economic growth and prosperity for all.
