In preparation to the commemoration of the International Women's Day Celebration 2024, by the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, the wife of the Enugu state governor, Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, honoured the deputy minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, as the political icon of the year.

The deputy minority leader, who is the chairman, House Committee on children, gender affairs, and social welfare, was conferred with this meritorious award on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, as part of activities in preparation to the celebration of the International Women's Day 2024, coming up on Friday, March 8.

                        Political Icon Award 

The award giving ceremony, which was organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, was in appreciation and honour to some distinguished women of the state for their inspiring leadership and exemplary services to humanity.

Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, wished the lawmaker continued success in all her endeavours as a mother and a political office holder. 



Responding to the award received, the deputy minority leader while speaking with JANE-CARESTV shortly after the program, thanked Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, in a special way for finding her worthy of the 'Political Icon of the Year Award'. The lawmaker said the award is simply a call for her to do more in impacting humanity, and she reiterated her commitment to doubling her efforts on the cause.

Commending the efforts of the honourable commissioner, ministry of children, gender affairs, and social development, Mrs Ngozi Enih and her team for the great work they are doing in the state, the deputy minority leader assure them of her prayers and support always in partnering with the ministry, to enhance optimum service delivery. 

Speaking further, the deputy minority told JANE-CARESTV that Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, is infact the real Political Icon of the Year, judging from her antecedents on impact to humanity, simplicity, empowerment programs to Enugu women and her other contributions to the well-being of the people of the state. 

"Now hear this. In the middle of the award giving ceremony, a call from Ogui Police Station came to the ministry of children, gender affairs and social development, informing them of an accident scene that occurred along Ogui road, where a mother of three left her children by the roadside and jumped into a moving vehicle to commit suicide. Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, on getting the report from the commissioner for gender, halted the program and proceeded to ogui police station where she saw the three children whose mother was dead. After the briefing of the incidence by the police, Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, right there in the police station declared a scholarship for the three children. She said their scholarship will cover all through their primary education up to the tertiary institution. Thereafter, she took the three children into her vehicle, not minding their dirty outlook, and left the station. 

Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah handed the children over to the commissioner for children, gender affairs and social development, Mrs Ngozi Enih to see that they are well taken care of.

"Sincerely speaking, the award of political icon of the year is supposed to be given to Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, who deserves it and not me. Her simplicity and impact on humanity is one in a million. Her action at the scene has greatly inspired me and also increased my love and support for her. She is a humane leader and a mother with a milky heart of gold. I will continue to use her as a role model," the deputy minority leader assures. 

"Enugu State is truly blessed with the gift of a working governor and osodieme, two of a kind who are naturally humane-personified in doings," the deputy minority leader added.
