MOTHERING SUNDAY: ENUGU DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER, ENEH WISHES CATHOLIC MOTHERS HAPPY CELEBRATION, URGES THEM TO RISE UP TO THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF MOTHERHOOD

The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh (JP) has called on the women of her constituency to rise up to their responsibilities of motherhood.

The deputy minority leader made this call in her message to constituents on the occasion of the Catholic celebration of its 2024 Mothering Sunday.

Earlier, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria issued a letter (dated February 23, 2024) directing that the Mother's Day Celebration should be held on the Sunday immediately after the Solemnity of the Annunciation, if the Solemnity does not fall on a Sunday.

Mother's Day Celebration this year, 2024, falls on the third Sunday of Easter, April 14th, 2024, since the Solemnity of the Annunciation fell on Monday, 8th of April 2024.

In celebrating this year's Mothering Sunday with the theme - "Motherhood: A call to perform our sacred and supreme vocation," the deputy minority leader charges the women to be agents of change and solution providers in their homes in order to reposition the society for good.

She noted that time has come for women to go back to the drawing board, put their homes in order, and become game changers, especially as it concerns proper parenting.

Reminding the women that a lot still needs to be done to get the society working again, the deputy minority leader calls on the attention of the women to the increasing rate of moral decadence in our society in recent times. "We must therefore begin to take the responsibility of raising our children more seriously, for many of these societal ills emanate from parenting negligence," the deputy minority leader added.

"The call to motherhood is a sacred calling. Mothering is a profession, as well as a call to duty. To be a mother is not merely a biological and social function; it is primarily a sacred calling because it stems not from a human appointment or a church ordination. A woman's sacred calling to motherhood arises from two unique powers that God has granted to every woman: the first is the biological capacity that God endowed on every woman to conceive and nourish human life in her womb, and the second power is the spiritual capacity that God endowed on every woman to mould her children's character for time and eternity. Practically, all of us can bear witnesses to learning things about love, honesty, respect, integrity, self-worth, moral values, and faith in God, first through our mothers. These and many more are courtesy of the powerful moulding influence that God has granted unto mothers," the deputy minority leader explains.

Emphasizing that "Mother's Day affords a welcomed opportunity for all and sundry, to resolve to be more appreciative and supportive for the vital ministry women perform daily in the home, and in raising of children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, among others. The deputy minority leader explains that mother's love is so deep that it chooses to ignore any physical imperfection the child may have."

"Mothers play a very vital role in the family, church, community, and our society at large. Their work, most times, is often unnoticed, yet it is indispensable to our well-being. Let us, therefore, celebrate our mothers and pray for them always," the deputy minority leader advises.

Acknowledging the acts of motherly affection that the wife of the governor, Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, has been displaying to the poor and the downtrodden in the state, the deputy minority leader encourages Enugu women to learn from the First Lady, such kind of inspiring leadership and exemplary services to humanity.

"Wishing all Catholic mothers a happy celebration," the deputy minority leader stated.
