SMART SCHOOLS INSPECTION: ENUGU DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER, ENEH COMMENDS GOV. MBAH FOR QUALITY JOB, URGES CONSTITUENTS TO BE EYES OF THE GOVT AGAINST SUBSTANDARD PROJECTS BY CONTRACTORS

The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, Member representing Awgu South Constituency, Hon. Tony Nwankwo, alongside with the good people of Awgu on thursday, April 25, 2024, welcomed the delegation from the state government on inspection tour of the ongoing smart schools construction across Awgu local government area.

Charging the contractors and the site engineers handling the construction of the smart schools and Type-2 Primary Health facilities across the wards in the state, on delivery of world-class projects that would stand the test of time, Gov. Mbah enjoined them to deploy quality materials and build according to specifications, warning that any sharp practices would attract stiff sanctions and rejection by the state government.

"Equally emphasizing the need for contractors to deliver their projects on schedule as stipulated in their terms of contracts, the governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, during the inspection tour of ongoing projects in Awgu local government, stated that the purpose of the inspection by the projects monitoring team, which comprises of the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ndubueze Mbah; Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Hon. Mrs Adaora Chukwu; Commissioner for Housing, Martin Chukwunweike; Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji; Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Chris Robert Ozongwu; Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Dr. Gabriel Ajah; Member ENSUBEB, Hon. Ego Ajah; Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Frank Anioma; Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Healthcare, among others, was to ensure the quality and integrity of the projects, from start to finish."

Commending Gov. Mbah for the award of the project and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia and his team, for ensuring constant monitoring of the ongoing projects and not leaving anything to chance, the deputy minority leader called on the stakeholders across the various communities in Awgu North Constituency to be the eyes of the government in their wards, to avoid delivery of substandard projects by the contractors. 

Reiterating her commitment towards ensuring that contractors adhere to the standard and specifications approved by the state government, the deputy minority leader urges constituents to take charge and ownership of the protect by ensuring adequate security of the facilities. 

"Take, for instance, the good job done by the contractor in the construction of the Type-2 Primary Healthcare facility in Ogbaku ward. That is the kind of standard work delivery that is expected of all the contractors across the wards. So, community leaders should rise up to the occasion and ensure the right things are done in their various wards," the deputy minority advises constituents. 

Adding further, the deputy minority leader enjoin communities to have a committee comprising of community leaders and certified engineers put in place for complaints and observations garnered from the project sites.

"Once these information are sent across to my office at the Enugu State House of Assembly complex, Independence layout Enugu, I will ensure that your concerns are duly communicated to the governor for onward perusal and necessary actions," the deputy minority leader assures constituents.

"Let us join hands together to support Gov. Mbah-led administration to succeed," the deputy minority leader added.
