Mrs Jane Eneh has taken a sensitization tour on child abuse and gender based violence to schools across her constituency in commemoration of the children's day celebration.
In a bid to tackle the growing menace of child abuse and gender violence, the deputy minority leader who is also the chairman, House Committee on children and gender affairs, embarked on the constituency tour, sensitizing secondary school students on the dangers of these social vices.
The deputy minority leader flagged off the tour on tuesday, May 28, visiting secondary schools in Agbudu, Ituku, and Isuawa, on the first day, where she engaged with students, teachers, and school administrators. The campaign/sensitization aims to educate students on the importance of reporting any incidence of child abuse or gender violence to the state Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, via the phone number (0816-053-6013) provided by the ministry, for prompt intervention.
During the tour, the lawmaker, represented by the coordinators of the program, Comr. Felix Ugochukwu Okonkwo, Comr. Okezie Kama and Fanny Onyinyechi Umeh emphasized the need for students to speak out against child abuse and gender violence, highlighting the devastating effects on victims. She also distributed sensitization materials and encouraged students to report any suspicious behaviour or incidents to the appropriate authorities.
The sensitization has been commended by educators, parents, students, and the Enugu State Commissioner for children, gender affairs and social development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, who lauded the lawmaker's efforts in addressing this critical issue. The tour is expected to cover all secondary schools in the constituency, promoting a culture of zero tolerance for child abuse and gender violence.
By taking this campaign/sensitization to the grassroots, the lawmaker demonstrates her commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of children and vulnerable individuals, promoting a safer and more inclusive society for all.
