ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: "CELEBRATING A YEAR OF VISIONARY LEADERSHIP" - ENUGU DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER, ENEH CONGRATULATES GOV. MBAH, SAYS HIS ACHIEVEMENTS SHINE BRIGHT

The Deputy Minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has congratulated the Enugu State governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on the occasion of his one year in office. 

In a message to celebrate the governor's one year in office, made available to JANE-CARESTV, the deputy minority leader lauded the governor for bringing his wealth of experience to bear in his promise of disruptive innovation, stating that his initiatives have yielded impressive results.

The message reads, "As the executive governor of Enugu State marks his first anniversary on May 29, 2024, I join Ndi Enugu in congratulating him on his remarkable achievements".

In just one year, the governor has made significant strides in transforming our state into a beacon of progress and development. His key promises with focus on integrated sector-based productivity growth include:

• Prioritizing infrastructure projects like road construction and water availability

• Boosting Private Sector Investment

• Enhancing Education and Healthcare Access

• Effective waste management 

• Strengthening Security with modern technology

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The governor's visionary leadership in transforming roads and water availability has yielded impressive results. 

     •  Roads:

In a bid to revolutionize the road network in the state, the governor within four months after assuming office flagged off the construction of over 70 roads across urban and rural areas. This massive infrastructure project aims to provide good and accessible roads for citizens, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the overall quality of life. The construction project will bring significant improvements to the state's road network, including:

- Upgrading of existing roads to ensure durability and safety

- Construction of new roads to connect rural and urban areas

- Implementation of modern road safety features

    •  Enugu Water Scheme: 

The commissioning of the 9th Mile 24/7 water scheme within 180 days in office, which is capable of producing 70 million litres of water per day with ongoing efforts to reticulate the water to homes, has restored the hope for accessible water supply within the state metropolis. This intervention has led to:

- Rehabilitation of reservoir facilities

- Upgrade of break pressure tanks

- Revitalization of water schemes

- Activation of 18 industrial boreholes with 150 horsepower pumps

This comprehensive approach has brought relief to residents, showcasing the governor's commitment to prioritizing citizens' basic needs and paving the way for a more sustainable future.

BOOSTING PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT 

In boosting private sector investment and job creation for economic growth, the governor has made efforts on:

- Attraction of investments in the private sector (agriculture, commerce & industry, sports, etc), capable of creating over 10,000 new jobs in the long run, eradicating the poverty index of the citizens, etc

- Making plans for construction of bus terminals in the state to enhance improved transportation systems in the state, which is expected to generate good returns in the annual revenue

- Launch of "Entrepreneurship Development Programs" for the youths through the Enugu SME centre, to enhance skill acquisition, connectivity, improved education, as well as create new opportunities for innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurs, support startups, medium and small-scale businesses

- Implementation of business-friendly policies, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and increasing ease of doing business within the state 

- Partnership with global companies, bringing cutting-edge technology and expertise to the state

- Hosting of Half Marathon race in the state through the ministry of youths and sports, flagging off the construction of 5-Star International Conference Centre Hotel, renovation of International Conference Centre, upgrading of Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, revamping of moribund assets in the state, among others, all in a bid to drive tourism development

- Inauguration of Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission to help in the generation and distribution of steady power supply for businesses to grow and flourish 

The governor's vision and leadership have transformed our state into an economic hub, creating opportunities for citizens and driving growth. His commitment to private sector development has set a new standard for economic governance and job creation.

ENHANCING EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE ACCESS

The present administration has made significant strides in human development, demonstrating a commitment to the well-being and prosperity of citizens. Notable achievements include:

    •   Education:

    - 25% increase in access to quality education through the state government's policy on suspension of all fees/levies from junior secondary school in all public schools in the state 

    - earmarking of over N100 billion in the 2024 budget, representing 70% of the total sum (N500 billion budget sum with 80% for capital expenditure and 20% for recurrent expenditure) earmarked for social services.

    - scholarships awarded to deserving students/citizens 

    - ongoing construction of smart schools across the 260 wards in the state, an  effort aimed at changing from the usual chalk and board education to raising generation of people who can be competent in ICT (eg., artificial intelligence, robotics, etc)

- Healthcare:

    - 20% reduction in infant mortality rate

    - 25% increase in access to healthcare services

    - ongoing construction of type-2 primary healthcare facilities across the 260 wards in the state for improved healthcare services 

These achievements showcase the governor's dedication to investing in the state's most valuable resource - its people. His vision for a brighter future is evident in the lives transformed and the hope rekindled.

EFFECTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT

The governor's remarkable achievements in environmental sustainability through effective waste management spans thus:

- Implementation of a comprehensive waste management system in the state 

- Introduction of policy on recycling, reduction of arbitrary waste littering across refuse dumping sites by 30%

- Procurement of more dust-bin buckets and waste trucks, ensuring sanitary and environmental-friendly waste disposal, etc

- Launch of public awareness/sensitization on social media for monthly sanitation exercise, engaging citizens in cleanliness and waste disposals, etc

- Collaboration with private sector partners, investing in sustainable waste management and recycling 

The governor's commitment to environmental sustainability has transformed our state, creating a cleaner and healthier environment for citizens. His visionary leadership has set a new standard for responsible governance and environmental stewardship.

SECURITY

The present administration has prioritized the safety and security of citizens, leveraging modern technology to transform the state's security landscape. Notable achievements include:

- Making plans for procurement and deployment of surveillance cameras across the major roads in Enugu urban 

- Launch of the "Distress Response Squad" (DRS) for rapid response to distress calls

- Putting an end to the illegal monday sit-at-home in the state orchastrated by non-state actors

- Upgrade of police fleet with modern vehicles and equipment

- Training and capacity building of security personnel for effective operations

- Setting up of naval base

         at ogurugu nsukka

These achievements demonstrate the governor's commitment to harnessing technology for the safety and well-being of citizens. His vision for a secure and prosperous state is becoming a reality.

The statement further urged Ndi Enugu to have confidence in the present administration for Gov. Peter Mbah came prepared to change the narrative and bring accelerated development in the state. 

Reiterating the commitment of the state government to focus on consolidating these achievements in the second year, the deputy minority leader urged Ndi Enugu to keep supporting Gov. Mbah for more secure and prosperous Enugu State. 

"I would like to commend our governor for his unwavering dedication to the people of our state and his unrelenting pursuit of progress. His achievements in just one year are testaments to his visionary leadership and commitment to our collective well-being. As we look to the future, I am confident that under his guidance, our state will continue to thrive and flourish, becoming a model for sustainable development and prosperity," the deputy minority leader added.
