The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a resounding campaign flag-off rally at the Awgu Local Government Secretariat on Monday, September 16, 2024. The event, which marked a significant milestone in the lead-up to the September 21st chairmanship election, drew an impressive turnout of PDP chieftains, state party executives, current and former political leaders, local government and ward party executives, stakeholders, and party faithful from across the local government area.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, the state party chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike commended the people of Awgu for their unwavering support and commitment to the party. He lauded the council for consistently standing behind the party and reaffirmed that under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, PDP will continue to flourish and grow stronger in Enugu State.
“We are proud of the overwhelming support you have shown to the party. This unity and commitment will ensure that the PDP remains the party of the people, and under Governor Peter Mbah, we will continue to break new grounds,” Mr. Chukwunweike stated, eliciting cheers from the crowd.
As the rally progressed, the state party chairman officially handed over the party's flag to Hon. Uchenna Okolo, the party's candidate for the Awgu local government chairmanship election. Congratulating him once more on his emergence as the party’s flag-bearer during the local government congress, Dr. Chukwunweike urged Uchenna Okolo to use his position, when elected, to emulate the transformative leadership of Governor Peter Mbah in Awgu Local Government.
“Hon. Uchenna Okolo, I am confident that you will bring the same level of outstanding leadership to Awgu that Governor Mbah has demonstrated at the state level. This is your moment to make a difference,” Dr. Chukwunweike declared as he presented the flag to the chairmanship-hopeful.
The state party chairman also urged the people of Awgu to convert their continued support into victory at the polls, emphasizing that PDP has a long-standing tradition of electoral success, especially in Awgu, and that this record must be upheld in the forthcoming election.
“Our party has a proud history of winning at the ballot, and we must continue that legacy. This is my local government, and I assure you, under my leadership, our victory is certain,” Dr. Chukwunweike emphasized.
In her speech, the deputy minority leader and member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Jane Eneh expressed confidence in the candidacy of Uchenna Okolo and his deputy, Stanley Ezediuto. Mrs. Eneh highlighted that the people of Awgu are pleased with the choice of the candidates and that victory in the upcoming election is assured.

“We are very optimistic that Uchenna Okolo will perform exceptionally well and bring rapid development to the local government. Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to transform the state is a mission that must be embraced across all local government areas, and Awgu will not be left behind. Hon. Uche Okolo’s ‘One-Day, One-Project’ reputation is not just a nickname; it will soon become a reality,” Mrs. Eneh remarked.
Mrs. Eneh emphasized the impact of Governor Peter Mbah's initiatives, noting that his projects on smart schools, Type-2 Primary Healthcare, and road construction across the 260 wards have significantly strengthened the PDP’s campaign efforts. She urged party supporters to actively engage the grassroots, spreading the message that the PDP administration is committed to delivering meaningful development at both the state and local government levels.
She further urged PDP supporters to go beyond verbal endorsements and ensure that they mobilize at the grassroots level to secure votes for the party’s candidates.
“It is time for everyone to show their electoral value. Support for the party should not end with words—it must translate into votes on Election Day. A resounding victory at the ballot is what truly matters,” Mrs. Eneh added.
The campaign rally set the stage for what promises to be a competitive election, with Uchenna Okolo and Stanley Ezediuto poised to lead Awgu Local Government towards significant growth and development if elected. As the countdown to the September 21st poll continues, PDP remains focused on delivering yet another electoral success in the state.
PDP....Power to the People!
