The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State held a resounding grand finale rally at Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, marking the final phase of the party’s campaign ahead of the September 21, local government chairmanship and councillorship elections. The rally witnessed an overwhelming turnout of party faithful, political leaders, and stakeholders from across the state, as the party sought to consolidate its stronghold in Enugu’s governance.

Addressing the jubilant crowd, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and leader of PDP in Enugu State urged the people of the state to come out en masse to vote for PDP candidates in all 17 local government areas. Governor Mbah highlighted the monumental projects his administration has embarked on, to ensure that development reaches every corner of the state.

“We are currently executing over 1,000 projects across Enugu State, with at least N1 billion worth of projects in each of the 260 wards. This includes 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, among others,” Gov. Mbah announced, emphasizing the state’s investment in future generations through education, healthcare, and job creation, among others.

The governor reassured the people that the ongoing infrastructural projects were aimed at creating sustainable wealth in every community. “It’s not about giving promises; it’s about walking the talk in providing jobs and wealth creation to eradicate poverty ” Mbah stated.

Governor Mbah commended PDP for its careful selection of credible candidates, ensuring that those elected into local government positions would continue the development and progress seen at the state level. “The council primary election is important because we know our rural communities are the most developmentally challenged. We have chosen the best candidates to serve you and build on what we’ve already started,” Mbah said.

In a passionate call to action, the governor urged voters to come out and cast their votes for PDP on September 21st, stating that the future of Enugu’s development relies on continuation of good governance at the grassroots. “Do not take the election for granted. We know PDP has won in the past, but we need you to come out and make sure your vote counts,” Mbah added.

Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, Chairman of PDP in the state, echoed the governor’s speech, expressing confidence in the party’s long-aged success. He commended the tireless efforts of the PDP candidates who had campaigned across the 260 wards irrespective of the opposition activities. “If you do not campaign, how do you hope to win? Nevertheless, we urge our supporters to come out and vote en masse,” he remarked.

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including current and former leaders, party executives, and dedicated stakeholders. Their presence underscored the party’s unified front as it headed into the final stretch of the election campaign.

Speaking with JANE-CARESTV shiortly after the event, the deputy minority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Jane Eneh lauded Governor Mbah’s remarkable achievements within a short time in office. She praised his visionary leadership, which has turned Enugu State into a construction hub, and urged voters to support PDP candidates at the local government level to ensure continuity of the developmental projects.

“The governor’s giant political strides have given PDP an excellent image. Enugu State is now a construction site, thanks to his visionary leadership. We expect the same progress at the local government level, and that’s why we’re urging everyone to vote for PDP to continue the good governance and sustainable development across the state,” Mrs. Eneh stated.

As the grand finale of the PDP campaign gathered momentum, all eyes are now on the ball ahead of the forthcoming election, where the party hopes to secure overwhelming victories in the local government councils, continuing the trajectory of development under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah.
