The Deputy Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Jane Eneh, who also represents Awgu North Constituency and Chairs the House Committee on Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, has expressed profound admiration for the First Lady of the state, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, for her outstanding initiative in organizing the 16 Days of Activism program against gender-based violence. The event, held at Awgu Local Government Secretariat on Friday, December 6, 2024, underscored the urgent need and clarion call to "UNITE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS," a cause that has garnered national and international attention.

The deputy leader commended the First Lady for her tireless efforts in championing the rights and welfare of women and girl children across the state. She highlighted how the program resonates with the global call to action against gender-based violence and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving a society free of violence and abuse. According to Mrs. Eneh, Her Excellency’s advocacy has been both inspiring and instrumental in addressing the systemic challenges faced by women and girls, particularly in rural communities.

The Deputy Leader lauded the First Lady for the tangible impact she has made through the State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, as well as her personal foundation. Recalling a poignant case involving an Awgu daughter, Miss Happiness Nwafor, a victim of child abuse, Mrs. Eneh lauded the First Lady’s compassionate intervention. Through her leadership, Miss Nwafor received a life-changing scholarship and rehabilitation, bringing hope not just to the victim but also to the entire Awgu local government. The Deputy Leader assured Her Excellency and her husband, Governor Peter Mbah, of Ndi Awgu’s unflinching gratitude for their continued commitment to the welfare of the people.

Mrs. Eneh also applauded the First Lady’s broader contributions to empowering women and the girl child through impactful initiatives, skill acquisition programs, and educational opportunities. These efforts have significantly improved the lives of countless individuals across the state, fostering a culture of inclusion and self-reliance. Her Excellency’s inspiring leadership and exemplary service, Mrs. Eneh noted, has set a standard of excellence that continues to uplift the people of the state.

Concluding in her remarks, Mrs. Eneh extended her heartfelt wishes to Her Excellency for continued strength, wisdom, and grace in her endeavours. “Your selfless dedication to the welfare of women and girl child is a beacon of hope, not just in Enugu State but across Nigeria. May you continue to soar higher as you transform lives with your good works,” she stated.
