As the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) today, Saturday, March 8, 2025, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh, the distinguished representative of Awgu North Constituency and Deputy Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to championing women’s empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive leadership across the constituency.
Speaking during a special IWD media interactive session with JANE-CARESTV, Mrs Eneh highlighted the critical role women continue to play in shaping our society's socio-economic and political landscape. She described this year’s global theme - "For all women and girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment," as a timely call to action for deepening support for women, not just in words but through meaningful policies and sustainable empowerment programs.
"As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, we're reminded that the true strength of our society lies in the limitless potential of women. From the farms to our businesses, from classrooms to boardrooms, women have continuously proven that with the right support, they can transform communities and drive lasting change. In Awgu North and Enugu State at large, we are proud to stand with every woman making a difference," Mrs. Eneh stated.
Under her leadership, Awgu North has witnessed several targeted initiatives aimed at bridging gender gaps and fostering opportunities for women. From skill acquisition programs to small business grants and active inclusion of women in community development projects, Mrs. Eneh’s tenure has prioritized creating platforms where women can thrive.
This year’s International Women’s Day serves not only as a celebration but as a reminder that the journey towards true gender equality is ongoing. Mrs Eneh used the occasion to call on stakeholders, community leaders, and the youths to continue supporting women's leadership and participation across all sectors.
"Empowering women is not just a women’s agenda; it is a collective responsibility. Let us keep breaking barriers and creating spaces where the voices of our mothers, sisters, and daughters are heard, respected, and valued," she urged.
As Awgu North joins the world to mark International Women’s Day, the constituency stands as a testament to what is possible when women are given the opportunity to lead, influence, and build.
Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh’s message today is not just a celebration but a commitment — a pledge to continue driving forward the vision of an inclusive, equitable, and progressive society where every woman has the chance to shine.
