As the nation marks another historic milestone in its democratic journey, this June 12, 2026, the Deputy Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member Representing Awgu North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs Jane Eneh has extended warm felicitations to constituents, calling on them to safeguard the ideals of unity, resilience, and collective progress. She emphasized that Democracy Day stands as more than just a date on the calendar; it is a living monument to the sacrifices of patriots who laid the foundational bricks of the freedoms enjoyed today. Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey, she noted that true democracy thrives when the voices of the people at the grassroots are heard, valued, and empowered.
"Democracy is not merely a system of governance; it is a shared covenant of hope, justice, and equal opportunity," Mrs. Eneh stated. Commending the unwavering determination of the youths, the industriousness of local women, and the wisdom of community elders who drive local economies forward, she maintained that the true strength of our democracy lies in our local communities. She stressed that building sustainable pathways for development requires looking past individual differences and lifting one another up right where we live.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Eneh urged constituents to reject division and cynicism and instead actively participate in civic engagements that foster neighbourhood growth, transparent collaboration, and institutional accountability. She concluded with a powerful call to action, urging the public to honour the heroes past by actively engineering a prosperous future where the dividends of democracy manifest in vibrant local innovations, better opportunities, and absolute peace for all.
